Anyone here fish lake Okhissa? Been thinking of dragging the boat up there as the lake isn’t terribly far from my hunting camp.

Would assume fish will be deep when we go which should be end of beginning of July probably. Anything particular we should know about the lake or how it fishes is greatly appreciated. Thanks

It was incredible when it first opened, then went to shite, was closed, and was pretty good when it re-opened. I hear it’s feast or famine now.

It’s very deep and not my favorite style of fishing so it’s been a few years since I’ve been.

I got to fish that like the weekend it opened the first time. Let me tell you, that was the best fishing of my life. Slept in the truck in line to make sure we got in. Caught 75+ fish, most 2-3 lbs with a few 5-7 lb-ers.
It was tough to see the lake turn to a wasteland within a few years.
Haven’t been in a long time but I’ve also heard it’s feast or famine now.

Too many people coming from Louisiana and keeping ice chests full of fish.

The MS people flood the LA side and do the same thing when certain small lakes get hot. It is just what people in that area of LA and MS do. Everyone picks on cajuns but the people in that area are worse, especially when it comes to fish.

I fished OK the year it opened. If we wouldn't have been in a 36" bottom duck boat we wouldn't have caught crap. We had to fish were the mob wasn't able to get to catch fish. It was fun. The bim busters were out in force the day we went. They were losing their minds. I am not surprised it sucks now considering the meat haul that went on. Every lake in that whole area is on a wipe out rotation. I have seen 150 boats on lakes less than 100 acres up there when the blue gills brag posts hit facebook.

I fished Okhissa for the first time yesterday. I have a friend that has caught some good fish there in the past, so I decided to give it a shot since the water by the house is all screwed up. I started the morning off throwing a chrome/black back Pop-R. My first fish went almost 4lbs, and I caught one just over 2lbs, along with a few dinks. I also had a couple get off and had one hang me up and popped my line.
Once the sun got high, I switched to a sexy shad colored square bill, a baby bass colored square bill, a chrome rattle trap, and a strike king swim bait. All of those baits produced a couple fish for me, with the baby bass and rattle trap catching the most. I managed to catch 1 fish over the slot limit that weighed right at 5lbs. It was a skinny fish. I didn’t keep any fish, but judging by the amount of small ones I caught, and how skinny the big one was, I’d say a good bit of smaller fish need to be taken out of that lake.
Also, I caught the majority of my fish pretty far off main points. Probably 50-75 yards out.

You don’t have to worry about me. I get my fair share of hill country in Missouri. I’m way too out of shape to do it all year
