That is very quiet.

Would love to put that side by side with my little set up just to see.

I'm really not exaggerating on mine. It really is ridiculously quiet.

Reason I asked about the app is, I downloaded one and it says mine little .22 was around 41dbs. Not sure I believe that but my set up is quieter than snapping your fingers.

I happen to have the SPL meter from work in my backpack in my home office as I've not been to the office in 2 months to put it where it belongs with the office tool. I took a couple of measurements for your consideration. Measurement was taken at arms length away.

10/22 Racking the bolt: 100 dbl
10/22 dry fire : 91 dbl
S&W Shield Racking slide 89 dbl
S&W shield dry fire: 91 dbl
Sig P228 Dry fire: 93 dbl

I'm coming across as argumentative, sorry.

I don't believe that 41 is correct.

Would still love to see what it registers on a real meter.

I didn't think so. But those iPhone SPL meters are notoriously bad without a way to calibrate it. I was just trying to give you a common frame of reference.

Since most people don't have a SPL meter and don't have a frame of reference it's hard to judge what 80-90-120db sounds like. I measured half a dozen more firearms during lunch. Just the sound of the striker/hammer is about 90db on most. That's ranging from ARs to bolt rifles to shotguns to hammer/striker fired 22's to center fire pistols to revolvers. That's measured around 2ft away and I wasn't very precise in getting the same distance on every measurement. When doing sound measurement distance is extremely important. Sound pressure drops 6db every time the distance doubles. So lets say you take the first measurement at 1ft away. Then take a 2nd at 2ft away. The 2ft away measurement will be 6db lower. At 4ft it's 12db lower. So when you are comparing sound pressure levels be sure they list the distance the measurement was taken at.

TL:DR:
Most firearms are around 90db when dry fired from about arms length away.

I shot a FX Impact .25 cal PCP gun for the first time last summer and it was the most accurate 100 yard lead thrower I have ever shot and it will take decent sized game with good placement.

I thought air rifles were a joke until I shot that thing. Couple hundred rounds on a single tank. Half inch groups all day long.

Expensive as frick though.

ATF is going to be pissed as frick at how fast these air guns are turning into as good as real firearms.

Wow....2 grand(ish). Looks sweet, though. Wife would shite a house if I asked to spend that on a "pellet gun".

I have spent almost a year hovering over the button to buy one

I am a gun guy that only ever shot your shitty Gamo air rifle from Walmart before

But its absolutely worth that much money

You can take deer sized game with one if you want to. Dont care what gun you have I can put a better group at 100 yards with one of them.

And its fricking powered by air.

Maybe I should just do it haha

Oh I see the allure. For some reason I wanted one as well, that's why I didnt run out and buy just anything. I found the Umarex Octane fit my bill. I liked the nitrogen piston over the spring, and upgraded to a UTG (Leepers) scope. It's a fun toy. Just haven't found the need to step much further.... yet
