Just wondering if anyone has any input on hunting this patch of woods. Is it worth my time? Only reason I'm considering is bc of how close it is to home. TIA!

Never hunted it but I've been and saw deer every time. It's definitely worth a try. I would go but I live about 2 hours away and I'm too lazy to make the drive when I have closer places to hunt. Seems like it's got a good deer herd though.

Crawling with deer.
Jump through the hoops and hunt it.
With due diligence, you should have success.

Same here. Gonna try to scout a spot today and try my luck. I know there's deer just haven't heard of many people hunting it or any success stories. Will give it a try though.

Yeah give us a review. Lots of places here in Avoyelles but packed with hunters. Always looking for something different....

I bow hunted it a few times. Rut is early there, as it,is,on the edge of the hills. There are lots of spots that are off limits though.if you have the time to scout it could be worthwhile .

Yea I live in Avoyelles but not going fight the idiots at grassy or spring bayou. Figure Indian creek is forgotten about so it's worth a try.

Well.....did some scouting.....made a hunt.
Came out empty handed. Scouting couldn't even see tracks from all the pine straw and leaves. Found 1 old scrape on a trail. I set up close to it. Didn't see too many vehicles out there either. Don't know what to think of it.....

Funny it wasn't packed considering it's either-sex weekend. Have you tried Thistlethwaite WMA between Opelousas/Washington? I've never been but many have told me there's some huge deer out there.

Dewey Wills if you want a chance at a monster close to home.

As I mentioned, I know a couple of guys that hunt there on either sex days and primitive weapons, I would bet they have a 50% success rate.

I have never put in any time out there, but do see deer out at IC all the time.

Yea I have family that lives there and we camp at Indian creek sometimes and I always see them. Might give it another shot. I just want to get in some woods close to home that the cooyons stay out of.

That's a bunch of woods. Not asking you to give away your spot, but any areas to try and hunt around?

I guess that means you won't be stepping foot on Spring Bayou

You got that right....grassy lake as well. Couldn't imagine all the people that were out there this weekend.

I definitely wouldn't go near those two areas during the first weekend of October or the weekend after Thanksgiving.
