Boat at Bay Marina so that’s my “home water”. If it’s calm we almost always run to the marsh in LA. That said, I fish the bay a pretty good bit too over the years. As has been covered, it’s greatly influenced by 2 rivers so if it’s been raining you’re getting a lot of fresh water. The 2nd factor is pressure. More pleasure boaters than fisherman. On the weekends in spring/summer the Jordan, Wolfe, and Bay are slap full of pleasure boaters. If you can do some map study and find some low pressure areas, you’ll catch reds. That usually means shallow areas so you’ll need to know exactly how to get around in said areas.

That reminds me, if you are in the bay and headed to diamond head and you go into the bayou, there’s a deep hole a little ways in. Think it drops to 20 feet. The white trout can stack up in there

In the fall, if you fish market shrimp on the bottom on ledges & in the holes from catfish bayou, cutoff bayou, and the jordan south of 10, it’s a damn near sure thing. I call it fish fry fishing. You’ll get a box of whites, black drum, bull croaker, and a bonus red or 2.

Does anyone know if anybody can use the backdown ramp at the Diamondhead marina? Or do you need to be a member? Also, are there any known obstructions when running in and around the bay? In particular while fishing the Northern banks for reds. Thanks.

You can use the Dhead ramp. Don’t need to be a member. I think it’s 5 bucks. There aren’t any big obstructions in the bay but the west side has some shallow flats along the private beach and the northern shore gets shallow quick in some spots. Just pay attention especially on low tide.

D'head ramp is $5 and don't expect them to have anything you might need (ice, bait, tackle). The northern bay is shallow almost everywhere from the mouth of the Jordan West to the Wolf River. If it's at high tide and you have a shallow drafting bay boat or skiff you'll be ok but if the water is down or falling tide, you gotta be real careful.
