Uh...based on what your dumbass grandpa told you? I have a chocolate lab and she was very easy to train and incredibly smart.

Dixie River Kennels in DeRidder

At 7 weeks she was fetching rolled up socks, extremely smart and easy to train.

When do I need to catch you a cat man? I dont want to get one today and have to hold onto it for 3 weeks. I only use Meow Mix to catch them, not feed them

Thinking about a Beagle now instead of a Lab. We are second guessing the size of a lab for an indoor dog.

I've told this story before on here so, SIAP...

When I decided to get my lab obedience trained I called a trainer and asked him if he trains labs. He started to answer and interrupted himself to ask, "Wait, is it a chocolate lab?". I answered yes and his next statement was, "I don't know what it is about chocolates, but something ain't right about them. The wires just aren't making good connections in their heads or something."

After 7 years with this one, I agree with him. My choc has mellowed out over the years, but he's still dumb as a brick. They can be extremely hyper when young and require constant attention or something to keep them busy. I got him just before Katrina. After Katrina I was living in a FEMA trailer on my front lawn. My fence had been blown down so I couldn't let him outside during the day and just left him in the trailer. I couldn't leave ANYTHING out. I came home to a pair of shoes, tv remote, magazines chewed to bits and pieces. After he realized he didn't have anything else, he started chewing on all the corners of the cabinets and partitions in the trailer.

They are loyal as hell though and protective too.

Good luck on whatever you decide.
