Toyed with the idea of ordering one for a month or two. Ive returned two of the $300 transmitter type collars they sell at tractor supply. Just too inconsistent and shoddy. Unless I just got two duds
My 1yr old cane corso is hard headed as shite and has cost me a fortune mangling my beds around the house. We also have a swampy area on one end of the property he loves that I'm always concerned he'll tangle with moccasins
It's $750 right now, which is pricey as hell, but I really like the idea of customizable boundaries. I doubt I'd pay much attn to the activity monitor crap that comes with the phone app
Hoping a couple of you are familiar. The online reviews seem solid but I'd rather hear a first-hand baw endorsement

A friend has one, has had to send it back twice in the first couple of months for repairs....

I don't know about either of those. I have the one where you put a wire in the ground. I've had it for 5 years. Its gone out twice in that 5 year span. Both instances the wire had been cut. It is a pain in the butt to bury the wire. It took me about 7 hours to bury enough wire to cover our back yard (acre and a half). But its been worth it.

Well thats a drag. I wonder if he just had the luck I had with the tractor supply ones
The ability of this one I like best is being able to customize the border. As in, you can do a broader are but then set smaller areas within that range like the house itself, flower beds, etc

Just a few general comments on the GPS side of things. Using it on a highly dynamic unpredictable animal has a few downsides.
The geo-fencing concept has been around for a while, for example trucking companies are heavy users. Solid technology.
The collar needs unobstructed sky view for good antenna reception. Heavy tree canopies block GPS signals. Check your your swampy area for 20 degrees above the horizon 360 visibility lacking heavy blockage.
Requires a subscription which is reasonable for coordinate data storage etc but an ongoing expense.
States accuracy is better than your phone. Maybe, doubt it but no specifics given i.e. is it WAAS enabled? It's likely a 10 foot accuracy system, at best could be 3 feet.
Does GPS antenna reception degrade if the collar rotates to where the clip connector is on top of the dogs neck with the antenna facing the ground? It will but to what degree is hard to know.
Would be an expensive collar to lose.
I like the concept and technology and if in your budget, give it a go.

Solid input. And no im not wild about the cost. But considering he's probably done $100s in damage to our beds, is starting to get friskier and wander further down our road, plus my stated concern with tangling with cottonmouths in the swamp, it feels necessary

Just about impossible to teach them to ignore snakes, one bite and the vet bill likely covers your cost.
Some of these systems use Wifi as a "beacon" to help resolve initial location faster at boot up time and as an additional position aid. It's worth trying by placing your WiFi router near the side of the house you're most concerned about, if possible w/o degrading it's primary use.
Good luck.
