Looking for some reviews on this boat for south Louisiana.

I had one. I didn't really care for it. Heavy haul. I could never get it on step really quick.

What did you replace it with? The weight is one of my concerns with the hewes.

I just went back to an aluminum haul. Something that is low maintenance.
I should have gone with a Pathfinder instead of a Hewes, but they had a Hewes locally that popped up for sale.

Is low maintenance worth sacrificing some ride? I'm trying to decide between a flats boat (redfisher style) or an aluminum bay boat. The new Avid hulls have piqued my interest.

Depends on how much money you willing to spend. Mavericks seem to be great. Everyone raves about their Pathfinders.
For what I do, I don’t need a “great ride.” I’m mostly in the marsh or in canals. I’m not running through open water chasing specks.

How did it ride in a light chop (in a canal/marsh)?
I’m evaluating something like a Hewes 18 or a custom metal side console hybrid type rig like Uncle J builds. Would go a little bigger if I built one from scratch.
I have a 24’ bay boat but I want something smaller and easier to mess with just me and one kid. Marsh, Toledo Bend, basin, etc. Holeshot not a big concern as I’m usually fishing. 2-3’ foe minimum type stuff.

Same here. Talked to them at the NOLA boat show and was told they were a few months away from a tunnel hull. Talked to them again this week and their factory is down right now with this virus situation. However, they texted me pics of their 23 that I didn’t know existed. It’s a fine rig.

Ride was nice. I had gotten it to be more family friendly. Bigger, fiberglass, comfortable for the wife and 3 kids. But most of the time it was me going out solo to fish and I'm in grad school so it wasnt getting used much.
I know Jason. He builds some really nice boats. I had the 4th boat he ever built back when he was in his driveway. And I can still call him and bullshite.

What you want is a frontier 180.
Theyll float in a hard dew and will handle a chop far better than any flats/poling boat

hewes are sweet, many were made.
lake and bay 17 palm beach or action craft 1802 would be worth a look

Action craft 1820 is on my list, but not many newer ones pop up used if I’m going the used route.
