I watched a Bill Dance episode once where Bill and Doug Hannon were wading Lake Okeechobee and fly fishing with deer hair bugs that Hannon had tied himself. They showed him tying one. I was MESMERIZED. I was probably 10 at the time but spinning deer hair into a popping bug that bass would eat seemed like just about the coolest thing ever dreamt up in the mind of man...I immediately set about finding a way to mimic tying those bugs. It was just a few days later that I found a road killed doe and collected as much of the belly hair as I could (the smell was not pleasant). I managed to tie something that looked like the ones on Bill Dance and actually caught some fish with them. This lead me to spend an inordinate amount of time and money tying flies, mostly for bass and bream but for everything from billfish to trout.....

Tying deer hair flies is not easy to say the least. Takes a decent amount of practice and the proper tools (good vise and good hair packers). I've not tied any in a long time. Have a box full of deer hair in a ton of colors. It's so much fun to see a bass blow up on a hair bug that you have tied.

It is indeed! Needless to say it took me a while to perfect them, using the term very loosely. It is really a work of art to spin one just right AND have it stay together long enough to actually catch some fish on them...

A_bear.... been browsing Barlows website. Great place!!! Wanted to ask you... are you building your baits from blanks that already have the wire, hook and head or you melting and pouring to make the head, etc.?

Did these jig heads on Saturday. Waiting on the eyes to come in. Powder coated them. Came out nice

I buy the heads with the hook and wire together, then just assemble them. I’ve tried a few different blades, but nothing beats the ones with the bubbler holes. Between yesterday and today, I caught 16 bass. 14 of those were caught on one of my buzzbaits. This was my biggest, 3lbs 6oz

The bass are starting to hit buzzbaits good, so I had to make a fresh batch!

You need to pull those skirts up. You basically have them upside down.
