Any experience with a Suzuki KingQuad 400?

I've had my mind set on getting a used Honda Rancher and that's all I've been looking at. However, when I was searching around in Marketplace I came across a KingQuad 400 for a good price. Been doing some brief research on it, and reviews vary but some folks say it is junk. Anybody here have experience with a Suzuki KingQuad?

I have one and two teenage boys. It’s still running strong if that tells you anything.

I know a guy who runs a survey business and has a couple of the newer ones, he loves them. No idea why he chose them with everything on the market.

Not to hyjack the thread, the early KingQuad 250s were the GOAT of their time. Ahead of everything else, IRS, high/low/super low. My grandpa had one, you put that thing in super low gear one with diff lock on, it would pull a house down.

I’ve had one since 2008. It’s the foot shift version and it’s carbureted. Never broken once. It’s garage kept and only ever sees non ethanol gas. I use it at the camp to go to and from deer stands to hunt /fill feeders etc. pull a small cart behind me loaded with corn or to dump deer carcasses. Does all those things well. The back end can squat a bit with two ppl, the shocks aren’t adjustable like the 550 or 750. It’s a work horse. Sits up high…probably not the greatest “trail” bike but that’s not what it’s for. Has a low gear, but no diff. Lock. I think they’re more reliable than Hondas if they’re maintained properly.
I can’t speak to the CVT reliability on the 400, but my dad has the 750 and his has never failed or slipped. It’s regarded as one of the smoothest and best in the industry and I agree. If the 400’s is built to that standard (and I don’t see why it wouldn’t, probably use the same parts) then I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one.

All my experiential the Suzuki quads have been great.

I'd buy one no problem.

I have two Hondas now from the marketplace but only cause they were a go buy and needed some work. Had I seen a Suzuki (there aren't as many) I'd have bought one.

I have that exact bike.
I love it. Not a complaint at all. I got the FS foot shift because i use it alot for land work. Get it.

Mine is a 2019 . It only has 30 hrs rgt now.

I would never ever buy a cvt transmission bike.

I thought the same thing 20 years ago, until I saw what my friends put them through. I’ve only seen a belt slip on one once and I don’t know how that bike was still running because the water was so deep.

I own 2 Suzuki Eiger 400's. One is an '06 and the other an '07. I've had them both for 8 years and have not had a single issue with either. If I were in the market for another it would no doubt be a Kingquad.

They’re pretty solid bikes for the most part. The downfall of them is getting parts. The mfg’s aren’t required to make parts after 10yrs. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. I have had a few occasions of that scenario with Suzuki/Artic Cat/Kawasaki. Way more so than Honda/Yamaha. Just something to think about.

I have a 2011 model and only problem I ever had was when my 7 year old flipped it in a pond. The engine didn't go under water just the front end. Ruined the speedometer, but the bike still runs great.

I have a 2014 Kingquad 500 with over 1k hours on it with no problems. Half ridden to and from stand with the other half being teenagers goofing off on it. I love the power steering and the fuel injection is very nice especially on really cold mornings. Just cranks right up, no choking etc. Suspension is adjustable but I left mine in the setting it came with and its a very smooth ride. The seat is also a little bigger which make it more comfortable especially if someone is riding with you. I did change out the stock air filter because I read forums where people suggested it because the stock filter is like paper. Would definitely recommend.

ETA: 1k Miles on it. Need to check the hours

I forgot to mention, the cooling system on it has been around a long time. Used in WW2 fighter planes, and the old 1970's dirt bikes.

It revolves around cooling the oil. There is engine oil flowing thru that mini radiator. And the cylinder is still surrounded with cooling fins, and a 12 volt fan on a thermostat.
