Another day of every hook picked clean, with no fish in the ice chest. What the heck!

I don't know man we caught right at 300lbs this weekend checking them 3 times.

How are you setting the lines?

Lines are fairly tight btw 2 trees, weighted to the bottom. Am I doing it wrong?

Do you have a leader line?

Don't tie to two trees tie to one and weight the other end. Pull it tight and drop it.

Yes have a leader line. I'll give your method a shot, I figured it might get caught up in stuff like that though.

Gar, sounded like a gar pit the way you were describing it. They love water like that. Long nose and/or spotted I bet. They used to pick me like that. try crawfish except live fish every 5th hook. Drop your line so that it is almost on bottom at the middle, and if they pick you again put on some small # 2 or less circle hooks or a few lines.

I bet if you wear pants, you'll catch'em.

As far as hot dogs go, I put them in the oven to firm them up. Don't burn them.

Everywhere I fish, they work like a charm.

I'm assuming you mean cross over towards Prairieville. Just found Bayou Manchac on the map, it's probably 2 miles from my house which would be great. I just don't know where I would put in the yak over there.

For those suggesting crawfish, should I just take a long handled net and dip in culverts for em?

You try chicken hearts? I tossed out a line in the pond behind my house with a chicken heart on a circle hook and left it overnight. I caught a 14" chopique

Landing called big johns or something like that just down river from the bayou. May be able find someone along the bayou to get access. Long handled bet should work fine in ditches for crawfish. FYI I've murdered catfish in bayou manchac on noodles years ago.

Thanks for the tip. Just drove out there and I think I found a spot to launch. What bait you used there? And how deep is it? Didn't look like that big of a bayou

It sounds like you got a small garfish problem man. Smaller garfish will sit there and nibble the bait off of your hooks.

Catching catfish on trotlines or jugs isn't science. They're not picky eaters and once you find out what they bite in one area you're pretty much set. Just keep at it. Once you find em, it'll be on.

I use beef melt when I jug fish and night crawlers, zote, or crawfish when I run trotlines. The only exception is goujon. Always use live bait for goujon.
