What do you experts say? I'm looking at an 1860 center console for my retirement present. I'm leaning towards the Alweld Marsh series.

Alweld is the best aluminum boats being made

and just a note - its much better to have a side console, the center console takes up the majority of your floor space and is always in your way needing to go around it so a center console give you little to no floor room for tackle and ice chests

I have a 17/52 CC Alweld marsh series with a 90. It's a sweet little rig. I fished from Belle Pass to the basin. I crab out of it, fish, pull the kids on the tube, run trot lines/juglines. It's a great little boat. You cant go wrong with it. However, if you need warranty work they make you take it to a local welder and pay for it.

My next boat will either be an Uncle J or a Gator Trax. For not to much more you can get it made just as you want. Look up Gator Trax on youtube, he makes a video on just about all the boats he makes.

Good luck, enjoy your retirement.

Gator Trax 18 x 62

I have an Alweld that I keep at the camp.
Yes, it is a better built boat than a Tracker.
Tracker is not bad for the money, rides decent, and they inject foam in the side helps with stability.

My nephew bought a new 2018 Tracker Grizzly in 2019 as the price, what options he got, and size motor was a good deal.
Tracker for the money not a bad boat.
Now his paint chipping and getting service from Tracker is looking like he will have a long wait looking 6 months to 9 months due to virus slowing things down.

2014 Alweld my paint chipped similar to my nephews.
My dealer had a local guy who fixed it no cost to me, de rigged and re rigged the boat, and I had in back within 4 weeks.
That is why I bought a bigger 2020 Alweld as my dealer takes care of the quirks pretty fast.
The welding on the boat looks better than Tracker’s along with the fit and finish.

Is Alweld the best boat no.
It is a decent boat that probably is a little better built than the tracker.

These are great for marsh fishing. I've always wanted one with the side console.

Tracker is probably the worst of all the tin boats. I have no personal experience with Alweld but have heard good things. I have personal experience with Lowe and would recommend.

Thanks. Their 1860's on my radar, too.

This boat looks nice.

Alweld will be a much higher quality hull based on comparing construction alone.

I agree...I was always of the impression that alwelds were very good economy boats. Tracker boats have a bad reputation that is unfounded in my opinion. I reconditioned a 1983 Bass Tracker III about 5 years ago and restored it to exactly the same finishes as it came from the factor with, down to the trailer moon hubcaps...it was a work of art. Had the original 40HP merc...they were riveted boats when built and that hull was as watertight as any hull ever built and it was 30+ years old.

I can't speak to new Lowes but if my 41 year old riveted Lowe is any indication there ain't a chance there is a better hull on the market.

Give a look at Uncle J or Gator Trax. They build them how you want.

Jason is a great guy to work with and stands by his product. If I were to go the custom route again, he would get my money again.
