Does anyone know whether it is legal to drink on a WMA campground? I always assumed that was against the rules. But while reviewing the 2018-2019 rules today, all I could find on the subject of WMAs and alcohol was this:

"Disorderly conduct or hunting under the influence of alcoholic beverages, chemicals and other similar substances is prohibited."

So do you guys ever see anyone having a beer or otherwise drinking in the camping areas? I might be inclined to camp out more if I could have a beer or two while doing so.

im not sure how it is nowadays, but way back when, at some of the wma's that we used to hit up in north louisiana to bow hunt and quota hunt, sometimes the campgrounds were full blown party zones.

I haven' been in a few years but we used to hit up Boise-Vernon now Clear Creek on opening weekend of rifle for deer season and it was a full blown hard stay up all night party atmosphere. It was nuts. So to answer your question I think you can drink on WMA's. I do and have in the past.

Camped at tunica dec 2016. We had a fire and openly drank beer. If you are worried just put it in a cup. It’ll be dark outside anyway.

Green jeans wont be worried about you having a few beers as long as you arent doing kegstands.

hunting under the influence

They don’t want drunk people walking thru the woods with guns shooting at shite.

Back at the campsite, you’re fine to drink. Everytime I’ve camped on WMA, we always drank beer at the campsite after the evening hunt. Just try to have a little respect for others with noise, especially if you’re camping during hunting season when most people out there are trying to rest before waking up at 4:30. Last and only time I camped at Sherburne, bunch of drunks in the camp area were playing music and being loud all night. Made for a miserably tired morning hunt.

I was at the Campground at the wma in Columbia (I think Beauf)??? a few years ago and it was full blown redneck party going down the first night. We tried to sleep in a tent and it was useless so we finally got up at 2 am and started cooking breakfast and getting ready to hunt when one ol boy saw us he ran over and shouted “”them boys getting ready to go get in line” so everyone went to scrambling and dukes of hazard sliding over the front of there trucks and spinning out across the field with the loudest pipes I’ve ever heard.. I looked at my buddy and said “that’s the most redneck shite I’ve ever seen” haha we laughed all day. The second night it was quite where the big party was and we got rowdy and reeved our pipes up and yelled yeeeehhhaww all night hahah good times

eta Game warden came by the second day just told use to make sure campsite was clean when we left

Eta also::green jeans came in our blind on catahoula lake last year and check us we had two cases of beer iced down and another case sitting under the bench he didn’t say a word about it he even looked in the icechest and said y’all dont have in breasted ducks in the bottom do you?

If that was anytime from the late eighties to the late nineties we were probably out there doing the same. Me and the baws would head out after Thanksgiving lunch every year for a while for the either-sex opener. Sometimes with a keg.

This. It is against the law to be under the influence of anything no matter were you are with a fire arm in Louisiana.
