Anyone successfully deter bears from feeders on your place? What have you done that has worked if anything?
We started buying metal feeders, anchoring with 3' rebar on all corners and started adding straps to keep them from ripping the lids off.
I know a pole with a raised feeder is the way to go, we just can't get there overnight and are looking for some answers to help out in the meantime.
When I was a kid we lived in North Georgia during the week but spent most weekends in Atlanta. When we would get home late Sunday night and the cars headlamps hit the house bears would be EERYWHERE....they were eating out of the garbage cans. This happened a couple of times until my Dad broke them of the habit. We had a booger light right next to the garbage cans (back in the day of galvanized garbage cans). There was an outlet on the base of that booger light. Daddy took a piece of romex. striped out one strand and wrapped it around the handle on the side of the can and stuck the other end in the hot side of the outlet. He and I then retreated to the porch, he had a cooler of beer, and waited for the show to begin. Did not take long. Small sow comes ambling out of the woods and makes a bee line for the can. When she stuck her nose to it she screamed like a bobcat and either jumped or flew about 30 feet from the can. She gathered herself and tried again...by now other bears had shown up...and each one got a taste of the electric garbage can. We sat out there amazed for about 3 hours until they all left. Never had an issue with them again...but did see one absentmindedly walking past that booger light one night and it glanced at the pole and jumped sideways about 15 feet and lit out tail tucked and low running....they did not care for that electric garbage can at all...

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife says shut the frick up and do what you are told. You are just a dumb redneck filled with bloodlust. Believe what they tell you. There is no bear problem. It's a "you" problem.

I know a man that did that because dogs would push over his garbage can. So he set it on a rubber tire and wired it to 110V. He cured the problem.

Soybeans are $25 a bag by our place, not really an option to fill feeders with them at that price. We checked with local farmers, no beans this year to sell
i guess we got lucky, supersacks for about tree fiddy.

You can go get one, the fine is less than the charge to kill one legally on a paid hunt. Just a little community service to do as well LOL. And that ONLY if you are stupid enough to run your mouth and get caught like this old boy.
"A New Iberia man’s hunting privileges were stripped and he was sentenced to probation and a $3,000 fine for killing a black bear earlier this year, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported today (Dec. 22).
Federal Judge Patrick J. Hanna sentenced 39-year-old Cory R. Ronsonet to three years of supervised probation, three years of no hunting privileges, a $3,000 fine and 300 hours of community service, the LDWF said."

Put corn in an ATV spreader/seeder and sling it out.
