my dad is blind in 1 eye due to an accident that landed a tomahawk in his face

not really sure, it was 35 years ago. he had his retina detached twice from being drug by a horse and poked in the eye during a HS football game. the final straw was the tomahawk that his brother accidently let go of while in the woods. he also doesnt have feeling in one of his thumbs bc a clip snapped off from the rope during a water skiing accident and cut through the nerve

I have a cousin that is an Army Green Beret and he said they have had training using tomahawks. I don't think it is standard issue or anything but there are some spec ops guys that use them.

you may want to look at Kuri blades as well... You cant go wrong either way really. I would prefer a Kuri blade and a folding saw for camping or anything for that matter. Kuri is capable of all knife needs and much chopping. the foldable saw blades you can get will saw through anything cleanly with less effort. they are light weight and small.
