Hot water tap on the outside to wash equipment.
Pour footings extra deep and large in areas laid out to put a two post vehicle lift in their ahead if time if you decide you want them later. You can find a lot used for a couple grand.
Will have hot water near the exterior for this. I will look into the 2 post lift and making sure the concrete is prepped.

Yes, you are right.

Congratulations! Not much better feeling than achieving a life goal.
We moved to a larger parcel about 20 years ago, 20 years later I love my place as much or more than I did when we got it. There is always something there to keep me busy. While I am easily 10 years or so from retirement I'll have no trouble being happy here once I'm there (assuming my wife doesn't cash in my life insurance before then...)
On a shop.. I looked at your drawings some and it looks pretty good. I have a 40x40 shop that was already here when we bought the place so I had to lay it out as I could.
A bathroom is a must I don't have one and having to haul arse to the house to shite is a pain. I spray foamed the entire shop and epoxied the floors, while also running dust collection and air compressor pipe at the same time. I then closed in my walls with OSB for sheet rock and came back and painted them. The OSB is great for a shop you have reasonably nice looking walls but if you need to hang something you aren't trying to find a perling or something to attach to.
I originally had a wood working side, tool/work bench corner, TV/wood stove/beer fridge side and then ice machine freezer side with a lot of room in the middle for putting a boat when needed or working on an ATV or truck or tractor or something.
Over time with a young family their stuff has invaded my shop and while I still love it I wish I had created more room for their stuff when first setting it up. My biggest advice is if you think looking at your drawing you have just enough room for everything you want to do at the current size add another 10' so you have room to grow. The lean to's on the edges add a lot and also putting the air compressor outside is a must keeps everything quiet while in the shop and save on space.
Enjoy it you will have a wonderful time planning, tinkering setting up and then moving it a little as the project becomes reality. Congratulations again!

This is the one piece of advice I got when I started looking at building also. I started off with a 30X40 then grew to 40X40 and I've settled on 50X40, plus another 24' overhang for parking, and then added the office and then expanded the office some more. At some point, my concrete budget is going to become unrealistic or I'd add another 200 sq ft to the office and move the bathroom a little more out of the shop.
OP congrats on the new land and hopefully you and the wife survive the home build process. I hope we get some progress pictures on the shop build when you get around to it. I love watching those kinds of threads.

Assuming we do, do this, it will be our 3rd.

I will plan to. I wouldn't expect to start building till at least summer. I'm hoping to finish the detach about 3 months prior to the house, so I can use it to move stuff into for prepping our current home for sale. We'll see how it goes.
I hope to get out to the land to take a picture of the snow on it this weekend and if so I will post it.
