Going thru my desk this week found a envelope for a fishing trip I bought a couple years ago at a banquet. Called and it is still honored, want to take a trip prior to school starting with the two boys. Easiest weekend for us is this one, fishing Sunday. After that we have to move some stuff around to go during a week. Looking at weather, it looks like rain Saturday. Will that shut down any bite that is happening? Would it be better to wait a week or so and let stuff calm?

Do fish even bite down that way in first of August? Thanks in advance.

If its a guided trip, just go unless the guide thinks it's best to postpone. Fish still bite in the rain. I don't mind the rain at all when its 90+ outside unless there's lightning.

If its an inshore trip and you're trying to catch trout, you'll probably have to make a bit of a run south closer towards Grand Isle this time of year since its spawning time and trout head towards higher salinity for that. Shouldn't have to travel as far for reds though.

Headed out tomorrow to fish Sunday morning, looks like decent reports from down that way, so hope things are fairly productive.

Most of the Red fish on restaurant menus are black drum. Kroger buys 1,000 of #’s weekly from big lake alone.
Glad trip was a success.

Thats what I hear, so gonna be eating some this week. I just quit after catching about 40 of em. Reds were mixed in with them, so had to go thru a bunch. Would have spurts of reds where you would catch 7-8 straight, then all blacks for a while. Boys (13 and 16) ended up with sore arms. Hell, the heat wasnt even bad.

If I was a saltwater guy I would be able to find this spot blindfolded, seemed to be a community hole. But I dont know any of the bodies of water down there.

Guide basically said this, I asked about trout and he said it was a run damn near to Grand Isle and even then it was hit or miss. I had no interest in running all day unless it was a sure thing kinda bite.

Yeah, the only trout in the interior marshes this time of year are going to be the undersized ones that aren't spawning size yet. Trout bite closer to Lafitte will pick up in the fall when the spawn is over and the fish move back into the marshes.

Glad to hear yall whacked the reds and drum though.

Went down to the camp (Grand Isle...before the bridge) about a month ago, and while we certainly caught fish, for the specks, both night and morning, seemed we threw back three for every one keeper. Fishing Caminada behind the main island.

White trout all over the place.
