Check out northern Idaho. There is a guy in youtube that only hunts public land. I will try and find his channel and post it here.

You’re right. I have no clue what I’m doing. No experience what so ever. Sorry for responding to this thread with false statements.

Rut didnt start until after we left and the woods are full of bow and muzzle loader hunters during sept. Post rut would be harder but finding them during that time isn't hard.. they will be headed toward private to eat.

I live in and have hunted Colorado for over 35 years. Don’t need to read to know about it. And you act like BLM is the only area to hunt.

Did my first colorado elk hunt last year

Saw elk

Saw more hunters

You better be in shape if you want to see elk

That's all I got

Probably not a good idea if this is your first hunting trip out west.
Weather can be a major pain in the arse during that split...

We did 8-10 miles a day at 9,500-11,000 feet.

Loved every second of it, but didn’t see anything. My buddy shot a cow. Saw some great mule deer, but elk had already been blown out. I blamed the wild fires causing the hunters to pile up at fewer units.

Agree with all. We hunted 3rd season. It was tough.
