But if most shots inside of 25 yds will not matter one hill of beans the speed difference.

25 maybe 30 is my all time long shot(facts get hazy over time). I'm not worried about speed as much because my hunting setup is conducive to shorter shots. I've jumped on the heavy arrow/fixed blade bandwagon in just the past few months(thanks A lot Ranch Fairy).

I'd stretch it to 40 if the situation dictates, but I really don't hunt situations that demand it. I'm accurate at 40, but styrofoam targets don't duck.

No they don’t, do they? :)

I’’ll add this. With all the different shots I have taken over the years I found that 30 yds has been the worst for jumping the string. At 30-ish they have dropped their max amount to load up and take off. I have seen it happen at 40 as well, but their body is on tge way back up by then and it affects the shots impact point less....usually.

I just prefer to stay at the upper range on the limb rating. For example my Hoyt limbs are rated 60-70lbs, but I dont want to shoot 60-65lbs with it. Its just backed off way too much. Would prefer to shoot 50-60lb limbs at 60.

This is good advice. You'll get better performance.

I shoot Hoyt RX1 but I've also shot CRX, Faktor and Carbon Spyder set at 60lbs. I use 28" Easton Axis 340 arrows and Grim Reaper 2" Whitetail Specials and never shoot deer past 35yds. Always get complete pass throughs. I'm able to practice out to 100 yds with a sliding sight before I start having vane clearance issues.

IMHO if you buy a new bow with 60lb limbs and crank them down tight you'll never regret it. The bow is so enjoyable to shoot, it takes the work out of drawing it back and the vibration, recoil and noise are greatly reduced.
