Anybody have good recommendations? This split is killing me.

It will kill anything living within 85 or 100 yards.
What good recommendations are you looking for? Gun manufacturer? Bullet to shoot out of it?
I do highly recommend a kick pad for it.

Gun brand and any other info. My buddy recommends the 45-70 over a muzzleloader and I do not have time to learn to bow hunt Y-E-T.

Get a .35 whelen and call it a day

I'v heard they kick like a sumbich.
So is it basically a normal rifle model with a blackpowder cartridge?

Are you dead set on the 4570? 444 and 35 will give you more range.
A 4570 will knock your inners loose if you don't hold it.

Thanks. I will look into it.

I am not dead set on anything. Just something for black powder season.
Any links you could provide would be great. Thanks!

35 whelen...basically a aught 6. Flatter and faster than a 4570.

My bdddy just texted me that the 45-70 he has is an "New Englans arms, used to be H&R". Whatever that means.

Sorry, going back now and seeing posts about range, H&R, etc.

I have a 45-70 buffalo classic that I got 7 years ago. I got a TC Encore Pro hunter in 35 whelen 4 years ago. I haven't hunted with the 45-70 in 4 years. I sometimes hunt with the TC instead of my 7mag.
the 45-70 does kick like mule. ballistics on it are not near what the 35 is. there not even in the same class. I would definitely recommend getting 35 whelen.
