First time in my life I am heading out for the beginning of a 3 fricking split. Why not four, or five. And lets start it on a Monday. LWF hate kids and people that work. Good luck to all.

At least this allows us to hunt to end of season. Monday opener does suck but I’ll take it for extra weekend at end.

I dont see why we even have east and west zone with the west having the extra split, and I hunt in both. It hasn't been great the past week in the East with the weather in CenLa (at least for us). We should all be praying for a good cold push before the end of the month, it has been super stale since it heated back up.

Absolutely hate losing this past week in the marsh. Closing weekend at very end of January usually does not pay off.

Lower water and smarter birds, yea, great, good idea, lets hunt those instead of early Jan birds.

Are there still ducks in the rice fields around Jennings are are they South of us? I went at the end of the last split and saw 1 pair of teal. It was really foggy until 930 which did not help.

It makes perfect sense. Closed on last Monday, when most people and kids were free, open it back up when everyone is at work or back in school.
Also, I’ve never understood why they don’t make the intracoastal the boundary line. Let the marsh hunters have their early season.
Also, that first week of speck season is worthless.

Agreed for sure. Haven't been to my marsh in SE La in few weeks but a friend went to Little Chenier area this weekend, had to damn near move the ducks out the way to get to his blind for some brushing and decoy maintenance. "More opening days" was one selling point....except for all the people that can't go on Monday (todays opener). Closing for Mon-Fri and re-opening this past weekend would have been just fine.

Ended up with a mallard drake and grey duck. No wind after the fog lifted, birds were wary.
