A little off of OP’s question but as others have wandered as well, here goes.

About 25 years ago a friend of mine showed me his Browning BLR in .243 and let me shoot it. Set an empty milk jug about 75 yds away on the ground.

Took me first shot and missed. Couldn’t see exactly where my shot was hitting except dirt and pine needles exploding behind the jug. Gun felt really nice and smooth with little recoil.

Adjusted my aim a little and shot again. Missed. Did that 5 times and missed every time until my friend was doubled over laughing. I felt pretty bad myself for not being able to hit a milk jug at 75 yds with a rifle.

When we went to pick up the milk jug there were 5 holes spaced around the front label. As the jug was empty, those .243 rounds were zipping right through and the jug wasn’t moving.

My friend stopped laughing and I felt a little better about my manhood.

Always wanted a BLR in .243

you need to take your scope off to track, just take a shotgun.

A lot of times I don’t bring anything else but my 30-30 to the camp. When I get down and start tracking a deer or hog in the thick stuff and and pushing through on my hands and knees I simply just pull it off and leave the scope with my gear I have done shed knowing it might get western.
It works for me and had served me well on several occasions.
