232 acres to John Franks Wildlife Management Area
52 acres to Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management Area

The Salvador WMA expansion came through a land donation from the Trust for Public Land in partnership with the Restore the Earth Foundation and the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation.

The Sandy Hollow acreage was purchased from the Trust for Public Land, while the additional land for John Franks WMA was secured through a supplemental license agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

A map of the WMA shows two of those squares on Oil Field Road.
I'd guess some oil company probably has something going on there.

Owner/Manager
LDWF, Tangipahoa Parish School Board

I see a lot of land all over the state that's owned by school boards. What's the story behind that?

quote:

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board owns and leases approximately 182 acres to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) for use in the Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management Area (WMA). This land, which consists of small, scattered tracts, has been leased to the state since April 2003 to enhance wildlife management and ensure public access

quote:

Louisiana school boards, particularly in parishes like Jefferson and Plaquemines, own significant amounts of land, often inherited as "Section 16" school lands granted by Congress for public education. These boards, including St. Martin and Iberia, lease this property for oil drilling, farming, hunting, and trapping to generate revenue
