.17 WSM vs. .223/5.56

ETC: Is there anything that .17 WSM is better suited for than 223/5.56.
Ammo price about the same.
Velocity about the same.
Perhaps on small game, .17 would leave meat more intact than .223?

I'm not gonna be interested in getting one until ammo becomes readily available for it.
I've got a .17 hmr, .17 Mach 2, a .204, a .22-250, several .223, and a plethora of
.22s.

Less demands for ammo (and probably less supply)
Ability to shoot for anything that is rimfire restricted - varmint hunting is restricted in some states (especially at night)

And comparing it to the 223 doesn't yield as much of a difference as comparing it to other rimfires.
Ex: It's about 60% more energy than the HMR and carries the effective range out to 200-225

If anybody is looking for ammo I recommend signing up for the email notification with Larry at Midway. I have received two notifications in the last two weeks that he had it in stock. It goes very fast when they do get it in stock though. I was able to get in on one of the notifications but missed out on the other.

One thing to consider on cost of the bullets is that the 17 WSM comes in boxed of 50 where the .223 comes in boxes of 20. Looking at prices on Midway show that a box of 223 V-Max is $18.49 while the 17 wsm is $14.99.
