Been looking at picking up one of these rifles for around the camp. Does anybody own one and what are you opinions on this gun? Thanks in advance

Savage makes one with the accutrigger that's really fun to shoot.

Fun gun to shoot. If you are looking at it for varmint hunting I prefer the 204, but for anything smaller it will do the trick.

Henry makes a sweet lever-action 17 HMR. Great gun - groups inside a dime at 100 yards - expect to be on waitlist for several months though, they only make a limited production once a year.

I have one made by Savage and it's a tack driver. Fun gun to shoot.

I have this model - a lot of fun to shoot, very accurate at 100yds - squirrel and hog hunt on the refuge with it...I put a decent scope on mine so I could dial it in for squirrels - they need to be shot in the head...

17 ballistic tip for squirrels if not eating = fun

17 ballistic tip for squirrels if eating=waste

but they do make some fmj ammo that works fine if eating.

I've heard you say that before. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any FJM 17 HMR yet to try it out.

INB4 Alx "The 17HMR is an answer to a question nobody asked"

I owned one and enjoyed it but got rid of it to buy a 17WSM.

I have a marlin bolt action with a heavy arse barrel.
It's fun to shoot, but louder than I thought.
Was hoping I wouldn't need ear plugs like .22 lr.
Never hunted anything with it.
Just bought to plink at 100-200 yards and not spend tons of $ in ammo.

I have the same gun and LOVE it. It's much louder than that little bitty bullet will leave you to believe. At the deer lease earlier this year, my dad says to me, "hey shoot that armadillo over there with your .17." I load it up and squeeze one off, he says, "What the heck, why'd you shoot your deer rifle instead of the .17?!"

I have a CZ 453 topped with a Burris Fullfield 4.5-14x42. It's a sweet little rifle. The wood is beautiful and it shoots great. The 453s had a single set trigger which is really nice.

As far as shooting squirrels with it, it doesn't matter what type of ammo you use if you shoot them in the head. If you shoot them in the body, I wouldn't recommend either. The hollow points blow them up too bad and the FMJ ammo just punches a hole straight through them. A lot of them will run off and die where you can't find them.

Great gun for the camp and varmint shooting. I just got a ruger 17, they just came out with this year. Comes with accutrigger. I'd recommend getting a good scope like Nikon rimfire. Works fine on squirrels when shot in head which is no prob for this deadly accurate beast.

i like mine. ammo a bit too expensive to plink, but it's a neat shooting gun. get FMJ bullets for game, as the ballistic tip tears meat up.

kilt a 20# shoat with it, right thru the lungs.

I got one to have at a piece of property just to kill random stuff. I love it but it really serves no purpose. Killed a teal sized bird at 275 with mine. Bipod off the hood of my truck. Thank god its leveled or I would have had to squat down a bit.

Out of the 10 guns I have it is my hands down favorite and I have some really expensive guns. It's accurate and super fun to shoot. It's killed way more animals then any gun I own. It has some power a buddy took it squirrel hunting and shot a doe in the neck and folded her. I don't recommend that or condone that, but just saying it packs a punch. I have the savage with the accutrigger, thumb hole stock, and bull barrel. It's a awesome gun to have.
