Area 2 public
53° 8mph north wind
Mathews phase 4
Yesterday when I got down I road around on my 4 wheeler just looking around. Found an area on the trail with a ton of good sized rubs. I looked on my map and found a little swamp not far away. Figured they’re bedding up by it. These deer feel safe around the water. I’m set up in an oak tree in my saddle on the north edge of the swamp with my wind blowing over the water.
My last hunt until I come back Monday. Woke up this morning and it’s flooded all around my camper. Hopefully I can get it out, but if not, it’ll be staying over the weekend.

I'm hunting a Pine plantation this morning with my. 30-06. It's impossible to walk in here without making a ton of noise. The ground is wet which helped but I still spooked 4 in the last 200 yards of walking. I've got maybe a 30 yard maximum shooting lane but it is thick enough in here that most likely any action will be within 20 yards.

One positive is there is a new scrape close to the stand I'm hunting. The scrape wasn't there on Tuesday.

I'm on a food plot this afternoon with my Remington .30-06. Wind has been gusting all day out of the north. I shutdown the deer party this morning on my walk in and ended up not seeing anything during the hunt. Hoping for the opposite this afternoon and that things will pick up during prime time.

Good luck to yall this afternoon

I finally got on the board for this season with a spike this evening. Not exactly how I drew it up nor do I normally want to take a spike, but I'll take what I can get at this point. He walked out into the field with about three minutes before the end of legal shooting light. I had already made up my mind I was going to take the deer before he walked out if it gave me a good shot. He stepped right out broadside and I dropped him in his tracks. My freezer has been empty the last few weeks and this was a win in my book.

That’s me as well. I’ll never shoot a spike or young buck… unless my freezer is empty and no does have given me an opportunity. Once it’s later in the season, I need to at least put some meat in the freezer. I haven’t been in that position yet, but I’m sure it’ll happen.
