Way cool, found on the Red River

The canoe is believed to be 800 to 1,000 years old, an archaeologist at the site said. It was believed used by Caddo Indians who settled along the Red River and its tributaries.

Its very cool. I grew up in the little town of Belcher near where it was found.

The caddo indians lived all up and down the red river and caddo lake area. The last one found has been restored and is in a museum in Shreveport.

I personally believe the flooding of the red river last year helped uncover the dugout.

how hard would've it been to hew a 34ft log into a canoe without metal tools?

Seems like it would be impossible.

that is very cool!...I am not sure I would recognize the significance if I stumbled upon it myself.

I've seen a documentary where they used fire to bore it out. Basically they put coals running the middle of the canoe and that bores out the shape.
