The squirrel head wouldn’t bother me. My FIL would nail the head to the tree to clean them

I found an old WWII mortar in a food plot that had been disked up no telling how many time before it finally revealed itself. It rolled around in the bed of my truck for several weeks until one day I brought it into a BR gun shop and the asked me to exit slowly and advise I Handle it with care until i contact State Police.... threw it back in the back seat and chunked it in the wash behind the house. Still back there somewhere.
Found out a Mortar Practice site was close by. The more you know...

I was scouting some woods owned by a friend and was walking along a small creek maybe 30 feet wide. I saw a hawk sitting on a limb of a tree that had apparently been damaged but grew parallel to the ground over the creek to my side.I walked all the way up to the limb and the hawk just sat there. It was about 8 feet high.I called my buddy over to see it and we knew something wasn't right for the hawk to sit there. I boosted my buddy up to the limb and he climbed out to the hawk.

He found the hawks's leg was nailed to the limb with a horseshoe nail and there was a dead squirrel next to the hawk. The hawk's leg was mangled so I threw him my knife and he cut the mangled leg off and the hawk flopped down in the water and flopped over to the other bank.I was spooked and we had no idea who did this or why.How do you nail a live hawk's foot on a limb over a creek?

Now I'm easing out of the woods keeping my eyes open for crazy people when about 30 turkeys ( no exaggeration) flushed out of the top of a big oak tree. I'm not sure how high I jumped and but I almost soiled myself
