I've known Phil Robertson all my life.....he taught me to gather leaves, moss, etc from the area I hunt, and put those in a bag with my hunting clothes. Also, have several changes of clothes, and to just air out the ones I take off, and put back in the back after a day of air and sun.
But, I've worn clothes straight from the dryer with the smell of dryer sheets oozing from them, and killed deer, ducks, and the like.
I don't buy into all of that scent free bull......

I went ahead and ordered it. 20 bucks isnt gonna break me. Like another poster said, costs next to nothing for a potential small edge. I've killed a few deer a year for the past 15 years, I'm doing a little bit right. Why not try something new?
Posted on 9/22/18 at 9:10 am to celltech1981
Exactly. Still hunt the wind but they aren’t expensive. It’s 20 bucks. The ozone really does make them lose some scent, at least to my nose. And I get it deer have an incredible sense of smell.
You’d swear some of these posters go to the stand with clothes they’ve worn for a week and cover it up with cigarettes and cologne.
My cheap amazon model is going on its third season. I sure did waste that 7 bucks a year........

Yup, I do all of the scent management techniques mentioned itt. I wash my clothes in fragrance free detergent then it gets bagged or hung up outside. At night the clothes stays outside. I light a small fire before going in to the woods and let the smoke go through my clothes. Last year I got more serious about minimizing scent and I saw more bucks than I have in the previous 3 or 4 years. Also didn't get busted as much. This may be a gimmick but like you said it's a cheap experiment. It wont hurt.

Even low levels of ozone exposure can cause the following conditions:
coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath, wheezing, and throat irritation;
worsened chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma;
increased risk of developing bronchitis or pneumonia; and
compromised ability of the body to fight respiratory infections.
People's susceptibility to ozone varies widely. An ozone generator should never be operated in occupied spaces, and the area should be adequately vented before people or animals are allowed to re-enter.

I bring my kids with me. You think Im washing their clothes in scent free detergent, giving them a bath with scent free soap, and making sure they do everything possible to not leave scent behind? Please. They will be touching every leaf on the walk to the stand. I wear regular clothes washed in Tide when Im hunting my box stands. And I dont have problems seeing deer. My kids know when we go, all they have to do is be quiet and we have a great chance of seeing one. We have a lease South of Shreveport in DeSoto parish.
This year my wife is going is going to shoot at her first one. She isnt going in there scent free either. She will have on her great smelling deodorant and hair smelling the shampoo. She would think Im nuts if I told her to soap and shampoo, and wash all her clothes in baking soda etc. I will find the stand where the wind is blowing into her face and thats it. Me and the kids will go to another stand and hope we see one.
Good luck to everyone this season though. If you see more deer doing all the little things then by all means keep doing what works.

Sounds fine for a box stand to me.

Yeah my furthest shot with a bow last year was 15 yards. Its more important when you're on top of the deer

Absolutely. I agree with you, but you cant tell me you havent seen a deer come from downwind of you and still not be spooked.

Never have unless I was really high. I've also been busted by deer when they are upwind of me. I was standing stock still and I watched a doe stop feeding and look right at me and bust. She was upwind at 10 yards. I'm not trying to replace hunting the wind. I'm trying to minimize my scent as much as possible. I wear wool as much as possible.

Which tells me you’re missing the point. Deer are generally not alarmed by odors like cigarettes, smoke, food, urine, etc. Some you may assume would be bad might actually make them curious. They have the ability to smell similarly to the way we see color, picking apart different scents, and they have evolved to be specifically wary of human/predator bacterial odor. There is absolutely nothing, zip, nada, zilch that you can do to prevent a deer from smelling your bacterial odor. There have been multiple experiments to test it with dogs as others have pointed out, all turn out the same way. Given that, it doesn’t matter how much you spent on your ozone machine. It it was one cent, it was too much.
Hunt the wind. Better yet, understand that deer don’t use scent alone to tip them off that something’s wrong. Deer come in contact with human scent over their lifetime from various sources. The best thing you can do besides hunting the wind is leave the phone in the truck and sit still and be quiet. They may forgive a whiff of human if things look normal, but once you’re seen fidgeting, you’re busted.

Hunt the wind.
That’s why I mentioned it in the first line of the post you quoted......

That’s not true. Your clothes will last much longer if you use an Ozone machine to clean them. Unless they have physical dirt/blood on them you will never have to launder them. That alone makes them worth a decent amount of money even without accounting for savings on detergent.

Followed by justification of a needless gadget, since it didn’t cost that much, under the premise it helps. It doesn’t.

Because people are willing to pay that for them.
Posted on 9/23/18 at 4:26 pm to celltech1981
I don't do much do the scent free stuff, but it if makes you feel better and worry less on your hunt, I say go for it. Most of the crap we buy to hunt/fish isn't necessary, but it's still part of the fun.

This thread reminded me to give my clothes a little ozone wash.
Now my clothes smell as fresh as a nearby lightning strike.
