Fed gov response to Katrina or oil spill?
after listening to jindal on cnn, I gotta go with oil spill response

Yeah I'm really starting the think the oil spill myself.
It doesn't seem that people really understand the expense that will be incurred in the long run by not doing something now as opposed to later.
It seems that BP is dragging its feet and trying implementing a lot of damage control rather than trying to solve the problem.

I'm just so angry right now
gov is a puppet for BP...... booms and people waiting to get in and help , but gov won't let them get in and do the job
I voted for this idot Obama , I don't know of I'll do it again

This is BPs responsibility, BP will be footing the bill.
It is not the governments responsibility for laying down booms. If they are drilling in the Gulf you would think oil companies would have ample booms stationed all over various points of the coast.
If they have the technology to drill in mile deep water, why is not a detailed plan ready and stuff not ready in case a something like this happens? If you dont have a plan and stuff ready there is no need to drill.
The govt has threw down the gauntlet today and is royally pissed at how BP has fumbled this and lied to everybody and missed deadline after deadline.

did you fricking listen to jindal on CNN now ralking about how the fed gov preventing people from deploying booms ! They were sitting there waiting, but BP and cost guard said no
Don't give me the " this is not the gov job to respond"
from the 1st day it happened , they should have developed plans and strategies instead of sitting on thier arse doing nothing
This is a huge Gov bust

Its the Governments responsibility to protect the environment from Private Organizations, especially for profit organizations who don't seem to be able to do it themselves. And yes the bill should be sent to BP.
The government needs to step in and force BP to get their act together and take care of the problem.

Then the govt. didn't believe that was the best course of action. Jindal did. People are allowed to disagree, and Jindal had his arse trumped by the Feds.

Can we leave this board to oil spill related issues?

Oil spill. The feds are sitting on the sideline while they got to work days after Katrina.

This is the exact reason we need to keep healthcare out of the federal governments hands. Those idiots in D.C. could screw up a wet dream.
Posted on 5/23/10 at 5:33 pm to TJG210
Federal policy was created with the help and input of energy companies behind closed doors.
(including Enron and Halliburton). The supreme court allowed it. The protective measures of the law are dictated by the private interests.
Healthcare could easily be run effectively by government if it were unfettered by private interests. And if the government purely regulated oil industry, you would see different results than right now. But neither are the case.

Its a catch 22 for Louisiana. LA residents have been crying for less government control. Now they want the govt to come in and rescue the coast from BP, who was in bed with LA and still thought very highly of?
The feds pumped in 190 BILLION dollars for Katrina.
There was a lot of Tea Party movement coming from Louisiana and strong sentiments regarding govt influence.
If this spill was off the coast of FL and started washing up on the white sandy beaches there would be a shite storm and BP would be hung out to dry. Many LA residents still think very highly of BP thus there is not much of a stink.

Agree
There was an article in NYT yesterday talking about how Louisiana people still support drilling after what happened? while many of northern states/people opppose it
it is ironic
you also have to understand that la relies heavily on drilling and other similar industrie

I hate to see it in FL but honestly the only thing something will get done here is if it does hit FL. There will be outrage and public outcry and BP execs might have to go in hiding. There is a very cozy relationship between LA and BP so there is not nearly enough pressure put on BP.
Pressure on the feds will ramp up as well.

The Odrama fed has put forth a piss poor effort in response to this. It is govt job to protect its citizens and clearly Odrama and the gang have decided to use this as an example.
If it was anything more than just lip service you would see action.......even if it turned out later to be the wrong action.
Example: Rebuilding Barrier Islands at the request of local govts.

Interesting that many of the people who yelling at the top of their lungs "Save us feds! Please!" are the same ones who also say "federal government bad, private enterprise good."
Shrewd political move by Jindal, trying to get Obama to accept responsibility for the clean-up. I wonder if he runs for higher office and brings up the old line "We just want to live our lives and let the government get out of the way..."

BP IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS EVENT. BP IS FOOTING THE BILL.

all the decisions at the well were made by corporate interests.
Nothing to do with any political entity.
you can pretend its those bad old liberals, but without some concept that ties a lib to the process during the mistakes, your wish to blame Obama is just that, a fantasy.
To list them
1. cement was curing. decision was made to go ahead even though the cement was still curing.
DO you know who made that decision?
IT was not the white house.
2. two tests were done, right before the incident.
those tests TELL everyone, that it was possible/probably
that there was a leak in the system.
but they went ahead anyway.
3. There was an argument/fight topside before they went ahead anyway. the participants were BP and Transocean.
Guess who forced the action despite the signs that there was a leak?
Here are your choices.
1. MMS and OBAMA no, guess again.
2. BP
3. transocean.
BP officials were on the rig.
Compare to Katrina, in which there were no corporations making the decision. ALL the decisions were made by politicians.
Some by Gov of LA, some by Mayor of N.O and some by Bush officials, BROWNIE, and some by BUSH.
Compare. Corporations made ALL the decisions which led to this catastrophe. OBAMA was not consulted. MMS was not consulted.
nice try though. propaganda does not require facts, just repeated lies.

I know this is a waste of typing .....
Are you honestly saying the Odrama administration has done everything it can do. Has he and his admin used every resource available to minimize the impact of this disaster on its citizens?
No
COME ON MAN
He has and continues to have a tremendous opportunity to show everyone his leadership skills and so far has missed out. Here's to "Hoping That Changes"
