I'm in Gulf Shores at Kiva dunes. The tar balls were pretty steady today and got much worse at sunset. When you looked down the beach their was a patchy 5' wide line of tar as far as you could see each way.

No smell but the sand was very brown from the water washing in. You can see the oil in the waves.

The workers take up much of the beach during the day moving back and forth. They pull their port a potties along too. Barely anyone is on the beach.

Big waves today. Tide may have pulled some of tar back out. No sign of work crews today. Beach has about 25 foot deep stain out to waters edge as far as I can see in either direction. Reminds me of the flood lines after Katrina. The main line where the water stopped and the discoloration under it.

Sitting on the porch reading and drinking. Watched 3 pelicans land in the water to rest. Know they are get oil all over their feet and chests.

I can see about two miles in both directions and there might be 15 people on the beach total. Not a tent or a kid in sight.

Makes you sad to know a good sized hurricane is going to stain everything inland somewhere in the Gulf in the next few months.

Thanks for the updates Bowe. My parents live out on the 14th hole at Kiva and I'll be heading out next weekend, so the updates help!

Thanks again.

thanks for the info. do you know or have you heard if it's the same deal at the beaches back towards 59?

thanks again for the updates. we're planning to come down thursday but are waiting until the last minute to book anything. trying to decide if we want to stay in gulf shores and go to buffett or go east past destin to try to get away from the oil.

Buffett was postponed until July 11. I'm dying as I had tickets.

No clue about further down but there aren't a lot of people anywhere. Including Brunos and the liquor store.

They haven't cleaned the beach in two days and it looks bad. Lots of accumulated tarballs. Now I can see a line of orangish foam about 50 yards off beach.

Line of oil and dispersant.

How many people are around? Are people at all the minigolfs, waterville etc? Or are they just not there?

I'll be coming down to the family home Thursday.

I think I might sit in the Dunes with a sixer of Red Stripe and frickin' cry.

So much for swimming nekkid in the ocean at midnight...

Is all of Gulf Shores/ Orange Beach in bad shape? Are there some areas that do not have oil on beach?

The waves are pretty bad today and pushing the oil way up the beach. You can see large lines of oil/dispersants from My balcony.

Not many people around. We went to Waterville today and you may have had a 5-6 person wait at the top of the slides. Weather has been genuinely crappy the whole week.

My buddy with us spent 2 days at Orange Beach before we all came here. He said it just as bad if not worse.

I was down there last Friday through Tuesday. The amount of oil in the water and on the beach seemed to stay the same the whole time. Like stated earlier, about a 25-30 foot area of stained sand from the edge of the water up the beach. Couldn't walk through this stained area without stepping on tar balls. I was staying across from Jake's Steakhouse and then went and checked out the public beach at the end of HWY 59, it all looked the same.

We spent all of our time at the pool because it was just too hot to be on the beach without being able to get in the water and still had a great time. It's actually pretty nice. There were no lines in the grocery store and no waits at the restaurants.
