So was BP right to downplay the severity of this spill?

Looking more and more like the end of the world is not upon us. It sucks for people who work in the seafood and tourism industry but they were hurt much more by overreaction than the spill itself.

Tony Heyward got reamed for saying "yeah, there's a lot of oil but there is a big Gulf for it to disperse in." Not out of the woods yet but turns out that may be true.

That's pretty much what happens.

Dispersed oil = almost null ecological effect + maximized surface area allowing for rapid breakdown by oil eating bacteria

BP, especially in those stages of the spill, was in a PR situation that literally everything that they do is twisted to be wrong.

While perhaps true, it was poor damage control to make that statement. That's not really what people wanted to hear.

That's ashame that people want to be lied to. I would rather the truth any day even though I was skeptical if what was said was actually true. When people assemble in masses is when idiocey reigns supreme.
