That was a tongue in cheek comment. Not meant to be taken so literally. I was pointing out the flaw in the arguments that the other poster was making.

I probably missed it by reading too quickly.

100%. I have acknowledged that this is the biggest factor. That is kind of the whole point of this thread. That crude oil in the gulf isn't toxic, but it's concentration is.

Thanks for a thoughtful reply.

I probably missed that too, or maybe didn't understand what you were trying to say.

I really hope that this thing ends up being a non-event...Venice and the coastal wetlands are so special..I try telling people in Texas about how awesome it is and some of them get it...some don't. The freak when I tell them we fish in 3000' feet only 50 miles offshore and catch tuna. My other thought is the irony of the fact that oil and gas platforms have been such a boost to the fishery through the creation of hard structure throughout the entire water column...and that same activity could be the demise of those fish.

Regardless of what is naturally occurring, I never had oil on my feet after a walk on the beach in Bama, you cant put foot in sand here without having a tarry mess to clean up. I am not arguing the merits of your argument I am simply telling you that Santa Barbara is a piss poor example

Sorry, I have never been to SB, only seen pics.

I don't know if this weakens or strengthens my statement. I know you said something about a spill there, but I assume that the "tarry mess" you refer to is from the natural seepage.

I'm really not trying to be a hack here, sorry if it comes off that way.

I completely agree with everything you are saying. This thread has definitely taken a turn for the rational.

I too am an avid fisherman and I'm pretty upset about the whole situation. Here's to hoping it all turns out okay.
