That would be stupid on the levels of epic proportions.

I'm assuming he didn't say that only because I figure that this place would've lit up if he had.

He's just extending what he did earlier to 6 months, not shutting down present drilling.

If true it will be interesting to see if companies with lease expiration issues sue the federal government. It happened off the coast of California with the fallout from the Santa Barbara spill. The companies were found victorious in court and the government had to repay lease bonuses collected on tracts that were declared off limits. I'd bet we will see the drilling contractors give some notice on how this will impact their contracts through force majeure or what not.

My heart dropped when heard what I thought I heard

Let me clarify, He is specifically talking about DEEPWATER DRILLING, not shelf.

why would they? there's more than 36 wells around the Gulf of Mexico. Shrimpers will make more money suing BP IMO

he said that 33 curent wells that are being drilled will be suspended immediately. that sucks because there are only 35 drilling rigs in the gulf.

that's a lot of drill ships and semi's to be sitting around idle.

i wonder when operators will start claiming force mageure on the contracts?
