I want so badly for the national media to cover all of the layoffs that are about to occur, paint the same picture of despair in these towns as they did when Bush was president. Now this windbag of a leader is kneecapping the industry with his own choice, we need to make sure the national media has a good picture that this piece of excrement and his policies are job killers, and the only thing he can create is tax dollar sucking government jobs. Maybe then people will wake the hell up and stand up against this piece of crap and make damn sure he is unelectable in 2 years.

Someone needs to find a way into making this the national story, it's absolutely absurd. If they continue on this path Lousisiana will be Michigan South.

Do you work for BP?

There was a news conference there last week. BP officials were instructing everyone else what to talk about. Talk very little about the oil spill and mainly focus on the moratorium.

Louisiana is in for some seriously hard times. The seafood industry is a huge part of the economy of the state in general and may be offline for several years. If ever a state needed to catch a break. I feel for those folks down there.

NPR did a story today on the moratorium's effect on the economy.
I didn't get a chance to listen as I was arriving to work.

And can we please save all the "windbag" and "piece of excrement" talk for the wingnut board?

Sorry I don't work for BP, but you're a fool if you don't think this is going to have devastating effects on the economy. This isn't just going to effect people with direct jobs in O&G either, it will have a serious trickle down effect, ask the people not in the auto industry who are still struggling up north.

I'm well aware of what can happen when 2 ford plants close, a 10K employer steel plant and thus many other steel plants close. 75% of the homes go into foreclosure.

OK, then what do you think will happen in the towns along the bayou who depend on revenue from O&G jobs/seafood? Will they not shrivel on the vine?
New Orleans will be affected as well, maybe in a total sense somewhat less, but still in all it will be affected.

CNN actually did a piece on the economic impact it would have on Lousiana when Jindal sent a letter to Obama asking him to reconsider. CNN said Jindal's numbers were right ,and its going to be bad.

Houston is looking at a worst case scenario of 120,000 job layoffs because of this. Louisiana will probably lose around 40,000. The problem this time is that last time the oil bust hit Louisiana our workers had fishing to fall back on. This time we won't have fishing to fall back on.

Look for several dozen international oil & gas companies to move their corporate headquarters out of Houston over the next 12 months.

Houston got alot of those back in the early 80's from Louisiana. They developed favorable tax benefits and basically lured them away from Louisiana. I wish Jindal could do the same now.

Just reiterated on WWL, dear leader said BP will compensate folks who lose their jobs. Can't wait to see how that one plays out.
