I wish we would have had one of those hydraulic wrenches when I worked on drilling rigs! Nothing like the old hammer wrenches. My brother got smacked in the face with a sledge hammer one hitch using one. My dad told him, bad it didn't knock some sense into him.

Wow, I just found out that those bolts are over 3" in diameter, 17" long and weigh 52 lbs. each.

Somebody on Drilling Club confirmed pretty much what I thought.
quote:
I think that is the lower end of the Discoverer Enterprise riser. I haven't seen a wide shot in a long time but originally they had their LMRP on the end of the riser. As I understood it, they were pumping hot water down the boost line and back up the annular space with one of the annular preventers closed on the drill pipe.
It to me looks like they are trying to remove the hydrates that collected up inside the LMRP below the closed annular preventer.

The amount of activity going on now is unreal.

Lots of action, if you watch the Discovery Inspiration, the cap is almost there...i think.

That's the feed you should be watching I think, if you're only going to watch one.

back from a meeting, is it capped??? i don't see any feeds of the plume
Posted on 7/12/10 at 2:41 pm to VanRIch
No, they're still maneuvering the cap into place.
Edit: Things seem to be on hold right now. Not sure why. The stack is...I don't know maybe 20-30 feet horizontally from the well. The ROVs were dragging it over by softline but for some reason now there's a pause in the action.

Is there a site where you can see them all streaming at once? It used to be in the first post, but now gone.

Posted on 7/12/10 at 5:48 pm to TexTiga
