you cant blame the company ..... this happened because of human error/natural causes....

I'm talking about a bigger piture not just 20 turtles. I agree these as of now appear to be a different issue.

(flamer disclaimer, I'm not a lawyer, oil person or a shrimper)

umm yes we can,if this oil spill leads to the extinction of a species. They're responsible for their equipment whether they fabricated it or purchased it from another company.it was a rig in their service and Equipment on their rig failed.

Update from NOAA on the turtles: LINK

quote:

“Based on careful examination, NOAA scientists do not believe that these sea turtle strandings are related to the oil spill. NOAA and its partners have conducted 10 necropsies so far – none of ten turtles showed evidence of oil, externally or internally,” said Barbara Schroeder, NOAA national sea turtle coordinator.

ok when a turtle is caught in a large trawl bag in which their are usually 2 of them dragging bottom(sea turtles to begin with steer clear of dirty water as much as possible to begin with)if a turtle is caught in the one of the bags to begin with their are several different types of species that will be trapped in each bag..they rub, cut and drag each other.....depending on the "try net" and what is being caught in the area the shrimpers are fishing, drag could last around 4 hours.....a turtle caught in a bag....will most definetely get "beat up" badly..were these turtles beat up or just dead and no apparent damage?..like mentioned before....my uncle fished for 30 plus years and he caught one turtle that was already dead.....the majority of those years without a ted device before it was mandated....for that many turtles to wash ashore during a time frame that was all together........well, that would be impossible that number one, one boat caught them and dumped(impossible)them and number two, that many shrimp boats in one day caught that many turtles in a couple of days and dumped them....impossible......trust me many fisherman have it figured out how to fix the teds anyways and they still dont catch turtles.....if you know shrimping, most shrimp are caught in dirty muddy waters where shrimp can dig in to cool off...they dont bury themselves in sand or clear water..they pool along mud beds on the gulf bottom and reefs in usually 15/20 ft or water...

Who gives a shite? Think of the millions of dollars of oil floating around... and the potential impact to the fishing and tourism industry.
