Great post. No, BP isn't perfect but the current situation mainly indicates just how hard it is to drill offshore in several thousand feet of water. Yes, they generally are a swell bunch of guys but they are pushing the limits of ingenuity and technology. Honestly, I'm amazed it took this long for something like this to happen.
Unfortunately, most of your responses simply indicate how knowledgeable the people responding are.

The problem is, they've not been able to stop it in a month, there is no way they can clean up thousands of square miles of oil and they will never be able to rectify the damages that will be done and make things "right".
Since you seem to have a answer for everything would you please explain how you would go about doing this.
The chances of this happening is like winning the lottery. It really took a perfect storm of things for this to take place. And while yes i am as pissed off and upset as any one I can also keep a clear mind and still see the reality. Every practical percation is taken in this industry. Human error as well as mechanical failure proved to be a disastrous mixture. The only other practical thing I could see that may could have done is to have two BOPs, but like we have seen they are not perfect, nothing is.

I said state and region. There are plenty of Alabama hicks working in the oil industry along the gulf coast and offshore. Including Mobile and Theodore which have large shorebases supporting drilling and production. Also have shipyards building vessels to support the oil industry.
Still narrow minded. You're taking a select group of individuals, when more than those folks will be affected by this.

You don't know how much damage will be done or what can be done to make it "right"
As yours was opinion. You can't say as a matter of fact they can make things right, when it will be likely years for the full effects to be felt. How are they going to make it right in the marshes that are covered in oil right now?

If it doesn't make landfall then it is a drop in the bucket and not only doesn't destroy the Gulf but has very little overall impact on wildlife.
More opinion of yours. Unless you know for a fact how much aquatic life is being destroyed, from plankton on up. That statement there is nowhere near fact, but biased opinion like alot on both sides.

The impact thus far has been minimal
I guess we have different views on what minimal is.

All commercial and sport fisherman I know have had little if any impact

Not someone you've seen on TV or read about on the internet, you personally?
You realize, this is going to be a long time event, not an overnight cause and effect event, yes? I brought up some points, but it's clear you've got an agenda by your attacks and personalizing this so much. Unfortunate.

I don't have close to any answers for this. Evidentally, a company that can manage over $14 billion in profits can't figure it out either.
Like I said, I understand the need for oil, it's a basic need in todays world and will be for some time to come. I also appreciate the influence that oil has had on La and parts of Miss and Ala over the years too. I'm in no way trying to bash anyone in the business or the hard workers that do this job. I'm just sickened at the thought of how much this accident is going to affect a natural resource that the Gulf is. I'm as conservative as they come, but in this instance, it's sickening to see the damage being done, and nobody can say that long term damage isn't being done and be honest in that statement, based on what you can see with your own eyes.
