Just got back from Ft Walton Beach today. Tar balls hit the shore Wed evening. Lots of tar balls in the surf. The tar balls I saw were all about dime size or smaller. That crap sticks to everything. Assuming it's not there yet, Destin can't be far behind.

Drove thru Ft Walton this morning, it was pretty empty.

In Sandestin all last week, hotter than Africa and water filled with a bloom.

I haven't been to the beach here since last week but it has been closed to swimmers since last weekend. I'll try to get down there and take some pics soon if you guys want to see. From what I understand, all beaches in Okaloosa county are closed for swimmers because of a large number of tar balls washing up in the surf. My friends from beach services were there when it happened first and claimed they had enough tar balls to have "tar ball fights." I'm not sure about crab island yet I haven't heard any news, but the booms over the pass were not successful due to the current being too strong. I would imagine there would be quite a few tar balls washing through the strong current into the bay.

There are reports from fishing boats of mile-wide and eighteen inch thick oil mats 5-7 miles offshore - headed here.

Now that just sounds cool. An OIL MAT.

At Crab Island Wed, perfect.

They do have a barge parked by the bridge with a Morgan City tug (cant recall the name) out there from Tuesday on. Loaded with what looked like spill cleanup stuff.

Without oil, that just depends on if the tide is going in or coming out.

Water is still clear on Crab Island. I was there all of Friday afternoon. Not many boats due to scattered thunderstorms. It got pretty windy but no storms and no oil.

I rented a jet ski at Destin harbour and they wouldn't let me take it into the gulf due to the oil.

Stayed in Fort Walton. Tar balls on beach showed up Thursday morning. Not that bad this morning. Didn't see any sort of cleanup crew. Water was clean but still had tar ball remnants scattered throughout the sand.

Morning Report from Santa Rosa 6/20 water still crystal clear this AM algee bloom is getting better depending onthe area. Few dime sized tar balls present. I would not let it deter anyone. The green flags have been flying for the last four days. Discussed possibilty of closing the water with a Walton County Police officer and was told that they had no plans to close the beaches to swimmers anytime soon. As I head back to NOLA this morning I am hoping my play area remians realativly unharmed.

I've been here since the 3rd, and I haven't encountered any oil or tar balls. The fishing keeps getting pushed further and further in, which sucks, but the beaches and the bay have been as beautiful as ever.

Fwiw, literally everyday somebody tells me they heard the oil is 2 miles off the coast and will be on the beach by 5. Everyday. I just gave up trying to plan when my last day will be
