Just heard on 100.3 that there is oil in the bayou. Someone called in and said that the rumor is they are bringing in a barge to sink on the north side of the intracoastal. It will affect the drinking water if this is the case. Anyone else hear anything like this?

you know how them rumors can get started... probably saw a sheen from a boat's bildge or next to a ship yard or something. i think they'd close the locks before this would happen

If it was oil, it's not from the spill.

I figure it's just rumors. I wonder if they are finished repairing the locks in Golden Meadow. I know the old one was removed for maintenance, and to make it taller. The new one was hit by a barge or boat or something. Hopefully they are back in service.

I have heard this same story in one way or another three times over the last two weeks. Does it have legs at all or is it just the crazies running around trying to scare everyone?

Somebody changed their oil and spilled it or spilled a little diesel in the water most likely.

The water treatment plant for south lafourche is located in Lockport. The spill would have to have meander no less than 50 miles of water way to reach that point which is highly unlikely. I doubt any sheen has even reached Leeville. This rumor is BS.

Yes, I know that. It's possible though, some guy on here claimed he caught a limit of specks a couple of miles south of Nicholls.

the intercoastal currents would cut the oil flow off as well IMO

Yeah that's it. The sheriff's office had to patrol the bayou when they were catching crawfish. Could you imagine if there were specks plentiful in there.

I was one of the first ones to see it. We had stopped at the shop rite in Raceland to get a beer. And a deputy showed up. There were people in a boat and the cop started telling them to get the hell out of there. There were about 10 people watching it. The only thing I could think of was how many gratons that big son of a bitch would make.

One of the locals probably decided to take a swim and that's where the sheen came from
