Zachary schools on lockdown - Police involved in large manhunt

ZACHARY - Most community schools were placed on lockdown Thursday morning as police searched for a suspect in a police chase.

The pursuit involved a man, identified by police as Andrew Thompson, driving a car with a child inside. It's not clear if the man was related to the child. The child was safely recovered.

While the school district suggested to parents schools were going into its most secure mode due to a home invasion, authorities said it was not a home invasion, rather, a large-scale manhunt. Police were using a helicopter and dogs during the search.

Of the community schools, Zachary Elementary and Copper Mill Elementary are not on lockdown.
