I remember when Coke machines were a nickle- and the outcry when they added that little penny box and raised the price to 6 cents. Then 7 cents. Outrageous! This was around 1957-58 timeframe in. NOLA.

I'm 65 and I remember when you could buy a cold 40 pound watermelon for a penny a pound. And they would plug the melon to prove it wasn't over ripe in the center before you bought it. That was a cheap but welcome treat during the hot summer for kids from a big family. Treats like ice cream or something weren't always affordable back then.

Yep, a 6 oz coke was .05, then upped the price. Gas was .23 a gallon and at the same time, thunderbird wine was .33 twice. $3.00 as a teen, one was set for the night. Two bucks for gas and a bottle of Thrunderbird, one would go rocking.

Burger Chef was my first "real" job after high school May 1968.
Left for the service March 1969.
Can relate to everything on the list, only it was in Lafourche.
