This looks like a suicide by cop situation to me.
Either incredibly inept or he wanted to force them to shoot him.
And why the gasoline?
It is unfortunate for the personnel and his family who had to endure this traumatic event.

Reportedly he’s a quiet kid, sounds like he stays home a lot. His family had to know he had issues when they report a 21 year old missing on a Saturday night.
