TIL Morgan City has a TV station
There are two. HTV in Houma has a translator in Morgan City and covers news from that area too.
While St. Mary Parish seems more connected with the Lafayette TV market, St. Mary is in the Baton Rouge DMA. At a time Allen Cable in Morgan City carried all the stations from Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and many of the New Orleans stations too.
A little history on KWBJ, KWBJ evolved as cable station providing local news and other content for Allen Cable in Morgan City. Since the 1980’s they produced a junior high and quiz bowl show featuring schools from St. Mary, Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, and St. Charles parishes. In the 1990’s they received a broadcast license on channel 39 and moved programming there. It became a WB affiliate when the network launched because the WB was not available in Baton Rouge at the time on a full power station, so KWBJ catered its line up of shows from a national cable feed of the WB that was geared to smaller markets where a cable provider or low power TV station could add local content and commercials on an affiliate. This ended when the WB folded into the CW and it lost the affiliation.
That is your local history lesson on Louisiana Local TV for today.

I was interviewed by Martin Folse on HTV while in high school. Probably around 1984. Surprised some Hollywood mogul didn’t see me and make me a big star.
