Everybody has gotten No. 6 wrong. They're close, but no cigar. Hint: Look at the vertical stabilizer, and the answer to No. 9 is written below the canopy.

The Hellcat Mimsi III represents David McCampbell, the leading Navy ace in WW2 with 34 kills, including 9 in one mission during the Marianas Turkey Shoot. His wingman, Roy Rushing, got 6 on that same mission.

He was bad arse, for sure. I’ve been reading up on Ira Kepford of VF-17 Jolly Rogers. And also Don Gentile of the 4th FG. Damn those guys were good.
