WWE Friday Night Smackdown Thread: The Trilogy No One Asked For Edition

It was expected after Wednesday night and now it is confirmed... there will be a lights out, no holds barred tag team match on Dynamite next week pitting Kenny Omega & KENTA against Jon Moxley & Lance Archer... confirming that there is a working relationship between AEW & NJPW... but right now it's mostly focused on the year-long simmering IWGP United States Championship feud between champion Jon Moxley & challenger KENTA (Hideo Itami from his time in NXT).
After it was reported that WWE quietly released Lars Sullivan on Wednesday... another quiet release came to public light as Forgotten Son/Knight of the Lone Wolf Steve Cutler has been released from the company. And it's reported that him contracting COVID (an asymptomatic case mind you) might have led to him getting heat from the company that led to his release.
Cutler is IRL doinking the current IMPACT Knockouts Champion & former NXTer/WWE April 15th releasee Deonna Purrazzo... so IMPACY would seem like a natural fit for him, no? Find out in 90 days I guess. In the words of Karrion Kross... tick tock.
Another guy you might be surprised is still employed by WWE... Buddy Murphy. He's been available but creative just has nothing for him at the moment. He went from being in 1 of the biggest storylines (and making out with a girl nearly half his age in kayfabe) on both Raw & Smackdown to... nothing.
Fortunately I'm here tonight thanks to a bus breaking down... meaning the baseball game I was to work tonight got postponed into a doubleheader on Super Bowl Sunday (not that I care about the Super Bowl).
Tonight's Smackdown comes from the WWE Thunderdome inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Edge makes his return to Smackdown for the 1st time in... ummmmm... a while. Will he be allowed to leave the show tonight without committing to a 'Mania match against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship?
The conspiracy against Sami Zayn widens as he gets the Intercontinental Championship match that he's wanted... but it's not one on one... but rather a triple threat adding Apollo Crews into the mix to go with champion Big E & Zayn
And it's the third match in a trilogy people couldn't have cared less about... even if it was another lady Ghostbusters movie... Dominik Mysterio vs. Baron Corbin

Butch Reed died today. I wonder if WWE will mention it.
In big tv news, NJPW has signed a deal with the Roku channel for an hour long weekly show starting next Thursday. New episodes will drop Thursdays at 5:00pm and will be available on demand. There's 60 million Roku users in America so this is actually a much better deal than being on AXS.

Sounds kind of like the old ECW syndicated show. The 2020 highlights and older matches is a nice feature too.

Evening humans. I’m going to bump this thread tomorrow with the updated FWL standings. Between the gym and other activities, I haven’t been able to update everything, but the points are tallied.
