Our doula was a godsend. My wife did not want her mother (mean obnoxious know-it-all bitch) there during any of it, and the doula basically ran security on her the whole time so the nurses and I could help support her.

Seriously. On top of that, saying it was a godsend to essentially not be there for your wife.
If you were present and able to be there for your wife during pregnancy and birth and hired one of these you need to question your commitment to marriage and parenting.
Literally paying money for sleep and not having your vulnerable just gave birth wife nag you.
