I returned to a public Louisiana University for Master's 15 years after graduating.
In the 90s, the profs were left leaning but not Leftwing Activists.
In the 2010s? I was shocked and disappointed at how drastically academic standards have plummeted while any sort of ideological nuance, diversity, or tolerance has disappeared.

Liberal Arts Departments have become extremist culture war centers for the Left. I would not have believed it if I didn't see it for myself.
In the words of a prominent man: Sad!

Everyone has that uncle. I see him at family reunions and holidays, and he's insufferable from watching fox news 24/7.

Ah... the old "If you disagree with me you must watch Fox News!!!!!"
Followed by unintelligible screeching.
What an ignoramus.

Stop being so close minded and intolerant.
Thanks in advance.

I was an idiot in my 20s and blew money as soon as I made it. That lifestyle is for the young, but one can clean up on the tip system and generally have a great time doing it.

Have a real job now that I also enjoy, but a great deal of my current success came from people skills developed in those old bar and restaurant days.

This was 100% me. Through my time in service industry, I learned how to communicate, talk to all different kinds of people, time manage, network, etc.

...I should have gone back to school much sooner than I did but it helped me to learn a lot of things I would not have otherwise.

Classic liberal arts education was useful. Included philosophy, history, languages, math, biology, chemistry and physics. A classic eduction including the study of Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, etc would be useful to anyone wanting to learn how to think. Unfortunately, eduction has morphed into indoctrination. What to feel has replaced how to think. Debate is squelched. Orthodoxy is mandated. Freedom of thought is not allowed.

Classic liberal arts education still exists at the Ivy Leagues and a few private colleges, but for the most part universities now exist for vocational training.
