Yeah but when shite hits the fan like US Air and Sully, i'd really want a human behind the controls

I don't know, have you seen how quickly AI vehicles can make split second decisions after processing everything?

I think of the video of the tesla with the bicyclist falling into its path and it instantly knows to avoid and hit the other car instead to save the persons life.

I'd imagine with that many people on board there will always be the requirement of a pilot for human intervention, but no doubt AI with the proper programming can process and coem to same conclusions in a fraction of the time.

One Autonomous aircraft, crashes while landing or taking off over a metro area and that will be the end of autonomous aircraft.

And I am not riding in an autonomous car either.

There’s a huge difference between the two.

When an autonomous car encounters a situation it can’t negotiate, it can simply stop and do nothing.

An airplane obviously can’t, so fully autonomous air travel won’t be a thing until planes can fly themselves out of every potentially dangerous situation. No unsolved edge cases.

Car makes (even with how close Tesla is) haven’t achieved this with 2D driving. It’ll be a long time before I trust the machines with 3D flying.

I will never get in a plane without a human captain.

This. The entire flight is automated except for the takeoff and landing

So much easier for pilots to walk out the cockpit and hit a line of Colombian bam bam these days.

Your pilot isn't doing too much active flying as it is. This. The entire flight is automated except for the takeoff and landing

so cocksure, but yet so clueless
