According to the criminal complaint, a Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputy was on patrol on Interstate 94 at 8:46 p.m. Aug. 29, 2017, when he saw a silver sports car headed south at about 82 to 85 mph. The deputy ran the vehicle’s plates, and they did not match the make and model of the car, so he attempted to pull the car over.

Instead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated, with speeds hitting 125 mph as it passed Highway 50.

The deputy lost sight of the vehicle, but as he approached the Highway C overpass, he saw the car, a silver Nissan Roadster, had crashed, appearing to have hit the outside wall.

According to the complaint, the deputy saw a man running from the damaged car, which was smoking heavily. A passenger — later identified as Gleason’s brother — was still inside the car, with injuries including what appeared to be a broken ankle.

Meanwhile, an unidentified witness approached the deputy to say a person had jumped over the Highway C overpass. The deputy looked over the median wall and saw a man — later identified as Gleason — lying face down in the middle of the lanes of Highway C.

Additional deputies arrived and found Gleason, unconscious but breathing, lying on his stomach on the pavement.

A witness told deputies he and a passenger were westbound on Highway C when he “saw a body fall from above,” hitting the pavement about 20 feet in front of his car. The witness said he had to swerve to avoid hitting the body, which he said “belly flopped” onto the pavement.

Gleason was charged with attempting to flee a traffic officer, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, operating while intoxicated causing injury, operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration causing injury, operating while intoxicated second offense, operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration second offense, and operating with a revoked license.
