As harsha as this may sound, I'd take whatever action necessary to preserve my family.

Having said that, the space shuttle had self destruct capability so who knows what action would be taken (that's out of your control) if something went wrong.

How would the vehicle know how many people are in any other given car? Even if did somehow get self driving cars soon, I don't think the technology for all of them to communicate seamlessly in milliseconds is even close to a reality.

I will say this: if my family ends up in a trolley situation and the computer decides to end their lives, you can be sure that company and I will be in court with a quickness.

My family comes first over strangers, no matter how many there are.

So a person who pays high taxes into the system, a la white collar worker, I expect they would have a higher value than those that don't pay taxes. I am sure the computer/robot can quickly calculate a value of the people involved each scenario and then just act where the smallest amount is at risk to be lost.
